National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) today reported sales of $453.4 million and net income of $71.2 million, or 28 cents per share, for the third quarter of fiscal 2008 which ended February 24, 2008. National’s third quarter of fiscal 2008 results included $19.6 million of pre-tax severance and restructuring expenses related to a previously announced factory modernization effort. Third quarter results also included approximately $11 million of discrete tax benefits that were recognized in the quarter.

The LM5118 switching regulator features peak efficiency of 95 percent, positioning it among National’s PowerWise® family of energy-efficient products.

National Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:NSM) today reported sales of $462 million and net income of $83 million, or 34 cents per share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008 which ended May 25, 2008. National’s fourth quarter of fiscal 2008 results included $9 million of pre-tax charges primarily for severances related to previously announced actions. Fourth quarter results also included approximately $6 million of discrete tax benefits.

(NYSE:NSM) today reported sales of $422 million and net income of $34 million, or 14 cents per diluted share, for the second quarter of fiscal 2009, which ended Nov. 23, 2008. In National’s first quarter of fiscal 2009, the company reported $466 million in sales, $80 million in net income and 33 cents per diluted share. Gross margin of 65.6 percent in National’s second quarter of fiscal 2009 was down from the 66.0 percent gross margin achieved in the first quarter of fiscal 2009.

National Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:NSM) today announced it has extended its family of low-power Boomer® Class D audio subsystems with two premium quality devices that simplify portable product design. The LM49352 mixed-signal audio subsystem and LM49151 analog subsystem are targeted at smart phones, full-featured phones, portable gaming devices and portable GPS devices. National will demonstrate these PowerWise® energy-efficient subsystems at the GlobalPress Electronics Summit in San Francisco, Calif., from March 31 to April 1.
